Some ideas only make sense once you watch them move
Nexous animates the parts of the engineering syllabus that are really about state changing over time — and writes the reasoning beside every step, so you are never asked to interpret an animation of something nobody has explained.
Why it exists
A textbook is good at definitions, proofs and breadth. It is bad at time. When a page says a page-replacement algorithm evicts the least-recently-used frame, it prints one static diagram and leaves you to run the other fourteen steps in your head — and the students who find that easy were never the ones who needed the diagram.
That gap is small but it sits at the centre of a lot of subjects. Scheduling, deadlock, TCP's window, pipeline hazards, a transaction interleaving badly, a beam deflecting under load: each one is a process, and each one is taught with a photograph of a process. Nexous exists for that handful of ideas per unit — not to replace your course, but to be the second explanation you go looking for at eleven at night when the first one did not land.
What a topic actually contains
Every built topic has three parts, and the order matters:
A written lesson
The definition, the key terms, the formulas, and what the idea is good and bad at. It is plain HTML, served with the page and readable before any animation loads — so the topic works on a slow connection, in a screen reader, and for anyone who would rather just read.
A step-by-step animation
Not a video. You control it: step forward one frame at a time, go back, change the input and watch what that does. The reasoning for the current step is written beside it, so the picture and the explanation move together.
A quiz that explains itself
Every answer comes with why it is right and, more usefully, why the tempting wrong one is wrong. A quiz that only reports a score teaches nothing.
How much is built
Honestly: a good start, and a long way to go. Today there are 88 topics you can watch right now across 23 subjects and 5 engineering branches, with 472 more mapped out from the syllabus and waiting to be built.
That total is not spread evenly, and it would be misleading to imply it is. 6 subjects have real depth — Operating Systems (11), Networks (13), Automata (13), DBMS (13), Compilers (13) and Digital Logic (8). The rest currently hold a single topic each: enough to show what the subject will look like, not yet enough to study from. Each subject's page says exactly what it contains before you click into it.
What gets built next
The order is decided by what students are stuck on, not by what is quickest to animate. Requests come in through the topic request form, and a topic that several people ask for moves up the queue. If the thing you are stuck on is not here yet, asking for it is genuinely the fastest way to change that.
Who makes it
Nexous is built and maintained by Akhil, an engineering undergraduate at VIT, working alone. That explains both the pace and the consistency: every lesson is written by the same person, so the notation does not change between subjects, and there is only one person's week to build them in.
It also explains the choice of subjects. These are the papers being sat, or recently sat, by the person writing them — which is why the lessons tend to dwell on the specific step where the lecture notes skip ahead.
It is free, and there is no paid tier planned. Advertising covers the hosting. Nothing is behind a sign-in wall — an account only saves your progress across devices, and the site works fully without one.
Corrections are the most valuable mail this site gets. If a lesson is wrong, an animation misleads, or a quiz answer is indefensible, write to contact@nexous.in and it will be fixed.
